Saucer Smear!

Just recently I made a blog-post lamenting the fact that countless UFO journals of old were no more; but also expressed my satisfaction that there were at least a few still flying the flag, such as Fate, Fortean Times, and Beyond.

However, I committed a cardinal sin: I neglected to mention Jim Moseley’s Saucer Smear - and via a letter that arrived in the mail this morning, Jim was quick to remind me of my momentous error!

So, as a result, Saucer Smear today gets its very own, dedicated blog-post.

If you haven’t read Jim’s mighty missives, you certainly need to. Harking back to the halcyon days of self-publishing, typewriters and the Golden Age of Ufology, Saucer Smear is a fine collection of Ufological news, gossip, scandal and more - and, thank God, all done with a very-welcome degree of biting humor and witty commentary.

You won’t find anything that has its eagle-eyes set so firmly on the Ufological arena, and the players in it, as does Saucer Smear.

If you want to read something put out by a man whose involvement in the subject dates back to its very earliest of years, want to read the latest on the more bizarre aspects of the UFO field, and also have a laugh in the process, then Saucer Smear is for you.

In a field where humor seems sadly lacking on most fronts, Jim still flies the flag - but succeeds in informing you at the same time.

If I’ve now made you want to read Jim’s Saucer Smear newsletter for yourself, contact him at P.O. Box 1709, Key West, Florida, 33041. Remember to send a stamped envelope for reply!

Some old UFO journals do exist on the web. For example, an almost complete collection of over 240+ issues of “Understanding” from 1956 to 1979 are online at Daniel Fry Dot Com (danielfry.com) in searchable HTML format. “Understanding” is like a time machine going back to the wacky world of the contactees.

Although not a UFO zine, the old Aberre zine (aberree.com) did carry related stories and ads from 1954 to 1965, most of which are online and searchable.

The “Archives for UFO Research” (afu.info, based in Sweden) also has an enormous and, I dare say, the most complete collection of old UFO zines and books anywhere, although not online. They also have a quarterly newsletter going back to 1975 (with gaps).

    Cheers, Sean.
