As Mac Tonnies and "E.A. Guest" can both affirm, this hypothesis was explored to an unprecedented extent in my 2000 book, "Caverns, Cauldrons, and Concealed Creatures."

The book has recently come out in an expanded second edition (2007), and can be seen here:

Well, I read this on a spanish magazine, where they showed the pictures o Armstrong with his spelunking equipment shot with some rocks in the background.

The mormons were interested because the cave is found in the province of Morona-Santiago, in Ecuador. If you know something about the mormons, they claim that an ngel named MORONI appeared to John Smith and instructed him about a book made of golden plates, the book of Mormon; so the mormons figured this could very well be the place where the book had been hidden.

I don't know when Daniken wrote his book, but the date of the expedition Amstrong took place was july 1976.

All this info I'm talking about can be found in www.akasico.com (sorry, it's an spanish site), the title of the article was "Astronautas marcados por el Misterio" (astronauts marked by Mistery).

Look, in this page there's a cropped photo of Amstrong, supposedly inside this cave

http://www.legadocosmico.com/tayos.htm

there's also this:

http://www.goldlibrary.com/

I don't know about the content of the two last pages, I just googled them using the terms "armstrong, tayos".

Hope this helps :-)

red pill junkie Says: the Mormon Church requested the participation of former astronaut Neil Armstrong in an expedition to that cave
(there are photos that prove he did took part in the expedition).

i don't remember this from "Gold of the Gods" ? - any leads (refs) to this and other UFO/Mormon connections would be appreciated,
thanks,

Red Pill:

Thanks for these. You should contact Mac Tonnies, too - these are exactly the types of stories he's looking for to include in his book.

These theories about ancient subterranean civiliztions has always fascinated me.

Like for instance, the case of a great cave in Ecuador called La Cueva de los Tayos, where a lot of weird metallic figurines were found by the local indians, and sent to a catholic priest that collected them. Upon that story is that Erich Von Daniken wrote his famous (or infamous) book "The Gold of the Gods".

What may not be too known by many people is that the Mormon Church requested the participation of former astronaut Neil Armstrong in an expedition to that cave (there are photos that prove he did took part in the expedition).

What was found and recovered in that cave was never shown to the public, as it was flown in big wooden carts by helicopters, apparently they searched many galleries as big as european cathedrals in that cave, and even found remains of ancient constructions inside; it is said Armstrong gave this criptic comment "As I was the first man up there, I'm glad I was also the first man down here too".

And of course, there are the legends of an underground city deep inside the brazilian Matto Grosso, the city of Paititi. Kind of the tropicalized version of Agharti/Shamballa :-) Peruvian contactee Sixto Paz is said to have gone to several expeditions to try to find it.

Keeping up with legends of underground bases in South America, there's also the case of Friendship Island myth, a place located in the chilean Chonos archipelago very close to the South Pole, where a strange religious community is said to have an advanced technology and are in constant contact with "the angels of the Lord". A man called Ernesto de la Fuente claimed he was cured of terminal cancer in the underground laboratories of the island. A very controversial subject that's one of the favorites of south-american Ufologists.

Speaking of books...

I only just noticed that you had a book called Man-Monkey. Obviously, I ordered it instantly :)

I took a look at your website, but it wasn't on there either.

I know in the past you've mentioned that it sometimes takes a while to get your website updated. And so I offer you my services free of charge... I'm pretty useful with Flash, too :) Feel free to ask if you need something taking care of as far as websites are concerned.
