Final Results for UFO Hall of Fame/ Shame
Results and totals on the voting at Kimball’s Other Side of Truth site.

For the Hall of Fame, I would have had Vallee on top, followed by Keel, but the public has spoken. The Hall of Shame voting was pretty hard on Adamski, who surprisingly came out ahead of Bob Lazar and Seth Sleestak.
We’ll put up a poll here soon. Any ideas on subjects?

Keel and Ruppelt will indeed be on the 2008 ballot, when the number of inductees will be limited to 2 for both the Hall of Shame and the Hall of Fame. It should be noted that Keel finished 6th this year, so he probably has a good shot next year, although he will have to compete with some new competition, including UFO Mystic’s own Nick Redfern, and MUFON’s Walt Andrus, among others.
I was suprised that the Lorenzen’s didn’t get more votes. Oh well - people have short memories.

Jacques Vallee is the best of all time. Hands down, the best. I would not have become interested in UFO’s if it were not for him. I wish to God he would write something new.

Got to agree that with the passage of time a lot of people and contributions lose immediacy and can get forgotten. I was surprised about the Lorenzens, too. Another one…though he made research errors here and there..who SERIOUSLY impacted UFO interest among the baby boomers in the early 1960s was Frank Edwards (and Long John Nebel). In fact a huge percentage of the crypto-Fortean-cum-UFO buffs of today got lit up initially by the Ace paperback version of Edwards’ “Stranger Than Science” back in the early sixties. For VERY many of us, “STS” introduced us to the “Flatwoods Monster”, “Tunguska”,The “Airships of 1897″, and so on. In a chapter called “Sky Traps”, he broke ground on what he called “The Point of No Return”, a concept that Vincent Gaddis would one day term “The Bermuda Triangle”. Edwards, like Keyhoe, was VERY important in that period of the UFO mystery culture.
In light of things said and published before his death we need to consider Gordon Cooper in this equation, too.

This poll thing could be the subject of a UFO book all by itself. The Lorenzens were important not only because of APRO, but possibly more due to all the popular books that Coral wrote. One of my favorites (and one that got me back into the subject) was “Flying Saucer Occupants.”

Vallee infected (possibly) millions of minds with his original thinking, and he came in second. This is probably due to the fact that the mainstream always wins out. If I were voting with my heart, Vallee would have come in first. If it was with my head, it might have very well been Hynek, since he popularized the subject by campaigning for a serious and widespread look at UFOs.
It’s almost like polling a group of goth-rock people on their favorite groups. Some will swear by Sisters of Mercy, but the Cure would probably win out.
