I think the Roswell event in July - and indeed Roswell book and TV shows - always provoke interest. However, as I have mentioned before, Roswell is fast moving away from history and becoming a slice of Americana and folklore.

Not because nothing of significance happened (I personally think something significant definitely occurred), but with people dying and no actual proof of anything, cases like this become the equivalent of "Who shot JFK?" or "Who was Jack the Ripper?" etc.

It becomes an avenue of entertainment, in other words, for TV shows etc.

So I fully expect that there will be strong media coverage this year as it's the 60th anniversary. But, will it actually make any difference to finally uncovering the full story of Roswell? No. Will it prompt the mainstream media to do a "Watergate" style study that blows the lid wide open? No.

Instead, there will be lots of predictable news footage of people in alien masks, and alien t-shirts strolling around eating burgers.

The fact is that while to the UFO research community Roswell is an important, serious event to be resolved; to the rest of the world it is a bit of fun that entertains and intrigues now and again - as will be the case next month.

Nick, you're going to be at the Roswell 60th Anniversary... do you think this is going to create any renewed media interest in the subject as happened in 1997 or is it going to slip by unnoticed?
