Apocalyptic Dreams
For a forthcoming project I’m working on, over the last few months I’ve been reviewing the large body of data and testimony relating to “alien abductees” and “contactees” who have had visions, dreams and nightmares of an apocalyptic future for both the human race and planet Earth.
It’s too early at this stage to get into a discussion of the nature of the project, beyond saying that it’s a controversial one; however, there is one thing that I want to bring to your attention and that is downright spooky, to say the least.
Over the last few nights, I have been re-reading Whitley Strieber’s book The Secret School, which delves deeply into Strieber’s childhood encounters with the visitors. In the book, which was published in 1997, Strieber discusses just such an experience of a truly apocalyptic nature that he had in 1995.
Strieber says: “…in this particular future, Washington, D.C. is in ruins…it was suddenly and completely destroyed by an atomic bomb, and nobody knows who did it.” He continues: “At the time of this vision, the United States is not a republic. In fact, it’s in chaos…The military is somewhat intact, and forms a shadowy sort of government…there is a very brutal, shrill group of religious leaders…who have made repressive laws they want enforced.”
Strieber explains that during the course of his experience, he learns what causes the devastation and destruction: “A nuclear warhead is smuggled into Iran, thence shipped to the United States, where it is eventually detonated on the top floor of a building in Washington” by elements of the former Soviet KGB and the Iranian secret police, who were aided by “a number of different religious and political groups in the United States and outside it…”
He recorded in 1997 that: “The conspiracy is extensive, and it appears to me now that it is already under way. It succeeds, essentially, because American intelligence is being blinded to it right now by a combination of bad planning and the presence of religious zealots within the community…”
Well, correct me if I’m wrong but all of this sounds horribly relevant to the world of today, what with talk of suitcase-bombs, fundamentalism, and now the growing issues concerning Iran.
What do I think of all this? At this stage, I find it all highly intriguing. And you should, too.

I am currently reading “A History of the End of the World” by Jonathan Kirsch. His basic premise is that the book of Revelation is a first/second century book that has far outlived its intended audience, and that each generation since has seen “fulfillment” occuring in the current events of their particular time. I wonder if “dreams and visions” of abductees follow similar patterns. I think in the West, since World War 2 we have experienced a relatively “peaceful” time that has insulated us from so much trouble in the world. We see “apocalyptic” possibilities looming (like a nuclear attack), and worry that we must be heading towards some sort of ultimate doom. We forget that much of the world (think Bosnia, Rwanda, the Middle East etc etc) lives in the shadow of war, famine and genocide on a daily basis. Talk of “apocalypse” would be meaningless to them…it only has meaning to those of us who are insulated from it all….
Just a few thoughts….

Alas, it sounds like second-rate pulp sci-fi to me.

alot of people who claim to have alien experiences say they saw the end of the world. Its nothing new to me.

Brian, Paul, Smylex:
Yep, anything that offers a poential future scenario before it actually occurs always generates controversy both for and against.
I would stress that my interest isn’t so much in whether or not this might come true or not (note that this isn’t Strieber prophesising at all and saying this will happen on this date or that date - it’s just a vision-type image/scenario he had and that he commented on); my interest relates to *why* so many abductees have such dreams, visions.
I’m on the track of something that may answer that….

Kind of reminds me of the episode of 24 they showed last night, but I am sure Jack will save us from the nukes actually going off.:-)

Hey everyone,
Pardon me if I come off sounding like a shrill shadow government fundamentalist; but what would you think or do if Streiber’s vision came true, or if we ended up in one of the end of world type scenarios?

BTW I am the guy who when the bombs fall will be sitting in a lawn chair on my porch wearing nothing but SPF 300 sunblock, mirrorshades and a smile. I’m not sure what else will be going on but I reckon there will be lots of alcohol and jokes.

As someone who has (unfortunately) experienced precognitive dreams, I can’t dismiss such occurances automatically. Precognition implies predestination, and seems to reinforce researches which indicate that free will is an illusion (see Dennis Overbye’s recent NY Times article for a start). If such is the case, Whitley’s scenario may be inevitable, sorry to say.

Personally
I do think that our civilization will burn out one way or another in the relatively near future.
It won’t be the end of the world, or indeed of the human race, probably. In the same way that the end of the Roman Empire, or the Egyptians could be equated with the end of the world or the human race.
But, I’d be surprised if there was not massive change in our world in the next century - and most for reasons that will have no positive aspect to them, for us at least.
That’s no me being a fatalist or anything like that. I just think it’s human ego to think that the great human race should just continue to advance and conquer all ills ad infinitum.
Why should we? The dinosaurs went, there are countless species of animal becoming extinct every year, we have rising populations, very weird weather issues, etc., etc.
We’re on the slide. But, something else will come along and maybe we’ll still be here, maybe we won’t. But then again, it’s not *our* world. We share it with countless other things, and one day we may be very much a lesser lifeform on this planet.

Glad someone is doing this…also glad that it is someone fairly grounded and objective. I had wondered recently if anyone out there had done a bulk reliability check on the abductee precognitive visions that abound in the literature…and found nothing of the like. So VERY curious as to what you come up with, findings-wise.
I had found the Secret School precognitions reasonably plausable when I first read the book…I find them REALLY plausable now!

Hey Nick — I registered for this post! haha. Anyway what do you think of Saucer Smear’s comment on Streiber:
Finally, here’s a bombshell (if true!) from a letter to “MUFON Forum”, written by someone named Warren Aston, as published in the May issue of the MUFON Journal: “… The one person on earth who is presumably closer to Whitley Strieber than any other - his wife - has affirmed to multiple people that everything he has ever written is fiction. In the presence of Clennys Mackay, MUFON’s coordinator in Australia, and several others, she volunteered that information when we brought the Striebers to Brisbane for an International Conference in 1999.”
Anyway also Nick — what about Strieber’s role on “the Stargate Conspiracy” — I know Prince and Picknett’s book is not taken that seriously although people consider it. In fact I found corroboration for their work in my own research — http://nonduality.com/hempel.htm with further summaries available under the “actual Matrix Plan.”

Drew
Yeah I saw that re the Mufon Forum; however, as far as I know it turned out to be little more than a storm in a teacup (as we say in the UK), and a misunderstanding of words, and not intended by Anne Strieber as being relative to his factual works.
I don’t have “Stargate” - looks like I’ll have to invest.

Good to see you hear. I hope to have the findings ready by summer at very latest re abductees and apocalyptic dreams.

I am a true believer in dreams that come true..I had a couple. Here is one in particular.I dreamed of the California earth quake a few years ago, when all the bridges went down.It was last bad one they had.I saw everything after it happened. The news people, the cars under the bridge, the area in total destruction and so forth.I was sleeping and woke-up and said there is going to be an earth quake. I am not sure where, but it will happen. One I woke up and it was on T.V. That was three weeks after I had that same dream about that same earth quake in California. It was like I was already there….
Here is where things get good.I had a second dream and this is going to rock the whole world.I had one where I was at a relatives house and all of a sudden the television broadcaster man says: A earth quake will rock the world in 2012.Every one will feel this and should be prepared for disaster..In conclusion…. I hope that does not come true.Ever since then,I believe in dreams that come true.

If you read and notice all that is out there, you will see a pattern. We are in the pattern of change rightnow..But like nick says it won’t ruin the earth. The Bible also says something to that fact also…It says whats out there, has always been. All is the same, something like that..So nothing is different..It is going to happen as it did in the past and we can’t stop what ever it is that will happen.Just like this stuff with UFO’s.. Whats out there has always been out there. We just are not being told everything. You can’t hide everything from the truth forever. It’s the way of the Universe and God or that of which we can not see.I also see that “Alien technology” is really being developed in everything we use now…and I am a little leary about that technology.I don’t really think Aliens are bad..It is the ones getting thier information I question. But what ever!

Diane
Many thanks for the comments. I’ve had quite a few emails sent to me from abductees since publication of the article, many telling extremely similar stories.

Nick,
I have your book and you are completely right about the saucer spies and UFOs.I know my computer has been acting very weird and I had some strange things happen,Like unanswered phone calls and one time a siren sound on my phone..but it was a weird sound.I probably will have more cause I have a few new about UFO movies that are really good.As for being an abducted person….
I don’t think I am a abducty..I have seen many UFOs though ..One night on my porch at 2:00 A.M.in the morning, I was watching this star after just coming home from work, because of how bright it was and then it started to grow to about the size of my thumb at the length of holding your hand out…The star then just moved to the left and then just blinked out.No sound what so ever..straight above my home.
probably a couple hundred feet above tree level.
I reported it on UFO Wisconsin.
Another night I watched this sparkler thing move a crossed zigzagging the sky, then stop in one spot and stay there the rest of the night and looked like a star. That was really weird.I also saw another tiny light come from way up in space and drop down and fly right over a jet heading toward Minneapolis, then turned stop in a cloud and then disappear as it left the cloud.I was on the phone with a friend and I was going nuts about the light.I don’t know what it was. This is just the small amount of things I have seen.A Friend of mine is writing a UFO book called “The Lindsey Lights” She has interviews with people of lights they have seen and me and her are doing the investigating on other sightings and such.We have a lot of stuff and she has found stuff in the bible also that you wouldn’t believe and of that which is related to numbers and the crop circles and all the strange oddities on earth.I was thinking of doing a book to.We have a pretty good trail to the UFOs controversies. The signs are here on earth and from the heavens and life. There is one crop circle if you count all the circles and spaces it comes out to that of DNA and anther interesting item also. Computers are also are biggest enemy. We are dealing with some alien technology here and and There is a way with numbers that say computer is going to take over as the beginning of the new way..I can’t think of that one word. It’s all very interesting. They got this technology from elsewhere that is for sure.
