A long time ago in Magical Blend magazine there appeared an ad for…wait for it…ALIEN DEFENSE RABBITS! The 2 column-inch gaffe offered cuddly stuffed rabbits into which were carefully sewn special magic crystals which would protect the owner from alien abductions. The ad really didn’t go into how this was accomplished, but I guess it didn’t matter. Later, I had a chance to talk to one of the editors about this one, and he said the staff had a good guffaw over it.

Updating this fun to the 21st century, a company in Japan called skyfish-maniax offers devices for catching the elusive and ridiculous “rods” (remember them?) with what Mac Tonnies descibed as “Dr. Seuss-looking” pieces of bent metal. Can the human mind ever stop coming up with wonderfully stupid crap to sell to new age dimwits? I hope not.

Even though the skyfishing page is almost entirely in Japanese, be sure to watch the videos linked lower down on it. Apprently you can get rod “lures,” poles on which to mount them, and a butterfly net to in which to catch those pesky rods for about $500.00. Such a deal!
